Matthew Smith is keeping all options open with races in three states a possibility for promising filly Slow The Flow this autumn.

Slow The Flow, who resumes in Saturday's Bosco Bulldogs Handicap (1200m) at Randwick, showed promise during the spring in a preparation which culminated in a gallant fourth in the Group One Flight Stakes.

Warwick Farm-based Smith is looking forward to Slow The Flow's return and is keen to test her over 2000 metres and possibly further against her own age in search of stakes success.

"She runs on Saturday, then in the (Group Two) Light Fingers and then we'll get to 1400 metres and see what happens from there," Smith said.

"I'm really looking at all options for her in Adelaide, Melbourne and here in Sydney.

"I'll keep all options open but I will stretch her out in distance.

"They are only three once and the strength of races gets a bit easier as you get over further."

Smith took heart from Slow The Flow's 1-1/2-length fourth to Secret Admirer in the Flight Stakes over 1600m, but it will be a case of trial and error to see if the filly will stay even further this time in.

"I thought her Flight Stakes run was very gutsy," the trainer said.

"She went forward, had blinkers on for the first time and was a bit keen, overracing for the first part of the race.

"She kicked and toughed it out the last 150 metres and I was really impressed."

The trainer says the daughter of Hussonet has returned a stronger racehorse to that who won two of her seven starts last year.

"It was only her first racing preparation last time and she lacked a bit of strength," Smith said.

"She's a stronger filly now and having had that racing she's a lot more seasoned."

Apprentice Taylor Lovelock-Wiggins will ride Slow The Flow on Saturday to take 2kg off her 58kg impost.

Lovelock-Wiggins claimed his first stakes win aboard Lang in the Listed Australia Day Cup (2400m) on Wednesday.

Slow the Flow won on debut in a Newcastle Maiden in May last year and also scored over 1200m at Randwick off a seven week let-up in August.

"It's a nice race for her (on Saturday) but she's by no means wound up," Smith said.

"She should be competitive but I would expect her to be stronger as she gets over a bit further."

Comeback mare Toulon Bay is also entered for the Randwick meeting but Smith said she wasn't a certain starter.

"She won't run if the track is firm," he said.

A year before Slow The Flow's fourth in the Flight Stakes, Smith prepared Hurtle Myrtle to finish third in the same Group One event.

He also trains talented two-year-old filly Combat Kitty who ran second to Karuta Queen in the $2 million Magic Millions Classic earlier this month.
