The jostling for Golden Slipper positions has ended with the final qualifying races at Rosehill on Saturday and it now becomes a waiting game to determine the 16-horse field.

The powerful Darley operation has a possible five runners but trainer Peter Snowden said two is a more realistic figure.

Darley's Altar won the Magic Night Stakes while Bart Cummings produced his Slipper hope when debutant Salade claimed the Pago Pago Stakes.

Connections of horses on the borderline will have an anxious wait until acceptance time on Tuesday morning, hoping for some withdrawals.

Uate, ninth on the order of entry, and Golden Archer (11th) have been ruled out as neither was nominated and a $150,000 late entry fee needs to be paid.

The Snowden-trained Sepoy remains the steady favourite with Salade the big mover, firming from $101 to $13.

The Snitzel colt has a Cummings sense of timing with the master trainer explaining his approach to training a Slipper winner.

"He had to win this race to get into the Slipper and you don't want to wear them out beforehand," Cummings said.

"It you race them too often they can go shin-sore and things like that.

"There is only one race that counts and if he was good enough he was going to get in."

Cummings has won the Slipper four times as has Clarry Conners who will saddle up $11 chance Satin Shoes.

"She is beautiful, she's fine, everything's fine," Conners said.

The Anthony Cummings-trained Smart Missile is the $5.50 second favourite after downing Sepoy ($2.90) last week.

Darley's Helmet will make the field on prizemoney but has to satisfy stewards to gain a start.

He was withdrawn from the VRC Sires' Produce Stakes after playing up at the barriers and was ordered back to the barrier trials.

That was supposed to happen on Friday but he acted up again and his last chance will be at Warwick Farm on Monday.

Final acceptance payments for the Slipper are taken in Tuesday morning with the barrier draw in Sydney's Martin Place at midday (AEDT).
