Unbeaten three-year-old Skateboard faces his biggest test on Saturday when he steps up to city grade for the first time at Randwick.

Trainer Guy Walter said he believed the gelding had a bright future but admitted the rise to the Benchmark 80 Handicap would be a true test.

Skateboard won his Goulburn debut over 1000 metres on June 21 by seven lengths and followed up with victory over the same distance at Hawkesbury on July 8 where he won by a length after pulling throughout the race.

"It's a big step up to a Saturday race in town," Walter said.

"But he is a very promising type.

"He's big and strong and has the attributes of a good sprinter."

Skateboard will be ridden by Blake Shinn who was aboard at Hawkesbury.

There were 15 entries taken on Monday for the race in contrast to the open 2000m handicap which attracted just seven nominations including the Walter-trained Dane Fontaine.

The mare only beat two home in a 1500-metre race at Rosehill on Saturday after missing the start by four lengths.

Stewards put a warning on her but Walter is hopeful there won't be a repeat performance this week.

"She had a habit of doing a few things wrong at the start when she was young," he said.

"But hopefully it's a one-off.

"She's definitely running and the 2000 metres should help her."

Dane Fontaine has won four races, one at 1200 metres, two at 2100 and one at 2400.

Queanbeyan mare With Ice was among the entries as she attempts her fourth win from her past five starts which also include a second to Hawk Island over 2000 metres on June 26.

The Chris Waller-trained Hawk Island is dual-nominated for the open handicap and the Benchmark 80 over 2400 metres.

Walter's other runner at the meeting will be Popnae in the 2000-metre Benchmark 75.

Popnae also broke his maiden at Goulburn on June 21 and has run minor placings at Canterbury and Warwick Farm since.

All three stablemates are raced by the Proven Thoroughbreds Syndicate which is managed by Walter's brother Jamie.

Nominations for the meeting have been extended until Tuesday morning.
