Toowoomba trainer Rex Lipp is confident Sir Sensible will atone for his last-start flop and prove his quality to the Sydney public in Saturday's Frank Underwood Cup at Rosehill.

Sir Sensible comes into the 2000-metre Listed race after running 10th to Tommifrancs in the Tattersall's Club Cup over the same distance at Randwick on New Year's Day.

Lipp has replaced jockey Larry Cassidy with Jay Ford after Sir Sensible was posted wide throughout last start.

And Lipp believes if Ford can look after the six-year-old in the run, the gelding will be powering to the line.

"When you come out of barrier four and end up four deep, five deep and ten deep there are just no excuses, you just have to forget the run and move on," Lipp said.

"I don't think this is an overly-strong race and he is much better than he showed the people of Sydney the other day and with the right run he will show them what he's really made of.

"He's got barrier one on Saturday and will probably tail out a little bit but that's his pattern of racing, he's got a big finish and I hope to see it Saturday."

Sir Sensible is stabled at Newcastle for his Sydney campaign and hasn't done much since the Tattersall's Cup.

"He went the long way home last start, so he got a pretty good workout," Lipp said.

"He's recovered really well from the run and with the right type of performance on Saturday he could have another go in Sydney in the Australia Day Cup (2400m) at Randwick and after that he will definitely come home."

Sir Sensible went into the Tattersall's Club Cup after rattling home to finish third to Pentacity at Doomben on December 20 over 2020 metres.

The gelding has not won since he charged home from the back of the field to claim the Listed Toowoomba Cup (2050m) in April.

TAB Sportsbet has Sir Sensible at $35 while the Kevin Moses-trained My Sweet Cookie is the $3.80 favourite ahead of Tommifrancs at $4.60.

Lipp said stablemate Express Air, who finished eighth to Tempest Tost in the $1 million Magic Millions Trophy at the Gold Coast last Saturday, had been sent to the paddock.

"She's pulled up well and will enjoy some time off now," Lipp said.

Meanwhile, stewards have allowed apprentice Daniel Ganderton to relinquish the ride on King's First in the Join The Club Handicap (1500m) at Rosehill.

Ganderton is suffering from a viral complaint and made a request on medical advice that he forgo his ride on the Bart Cummings-trained gelding who he would have to ride at 51.5kg.

Apprentice Nathan Berry replaces Ganderton on King's First.
