It took just 200 metres of a Warwick Farm barrier trial for star jockey Hugh Bowman to reaffirm his Doncaster Mile confidence in three-time Group One winner Shoot Out.

Shoot Out was unplaced in an 800m heat on Tuesday but he produced an impressive final furlong sprint that confirmed he is right on target for Saturday week's $2 million race at Randwick.

"I wouldn't want to be swapping him for any other ride in the race," Bowman said after Shoot Out finished fourth to the noted speedster Didntcostalot.

Shoot Out holds down the third line of Doncaster Mile betting at $9 behind More Joyous ($5) and Secret Admirer ($6).

He has occupied a lofty place in Doncaster markets since winning the Chipping Norton Stakes, a Group One mile (1600m) race, at his third start since a transfer to Chris Waller.

"Things didn't go his way in the Ranvet after he had all the favours in the Chipping Norton," Bowman said.

Shoot Out was trapped deep from a wide barrier before finishing third to Manighar in the 2000m Ranvet at weight-for-age and Bowman believes Waller has made the right call to target the Doncaster.

"I think the Doncaster suits him," he said. "It's a mile (race) at Randwick and his record there is brilliant."

Shoot Out's Randwick wins include Group One success in the Randwick Guineas and the Australian Derby.

The five-year-old will be one of four runners Waller will saddle up in the Doncaster with the Rosehill trainer also planning to start Albert The Fat, Danleigh and Metal Bender.
