Trainer Colin Little will delay a decision until just before acceptance time on Wednesday on whether to run El Segundo in Saturday's CF Orr Stakes at Caulfield or wait another week for the Australia Stakes at Moonee Valley.

Little said he was happy with the Pins seven-year-old but on Tuesday was still weighing up the pros and cons of running him in the Group One weight-for-age Orr (1400m), a race he won two years ago.

"I don't know yet. I haven't made up my mind," Little said.

"He had a gallop this morning and he's alright."

Little was happy with El Segundo's first-up effort in the Carlyon Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on January 23 when he finished 3-1/4 lengths fifth to Lucky Secret, running the fastest last 200m (11.64s) of the race.

That was his first outing in 15 months, since his Cox Plate victory at Moonee Valley in October 2007.

El Segundo had stem cell surgery after injuring a tendon in January 2008 when preparing for a summer-autumn campaign.

"I'm in two minds whether to run him, I want to make the right decision," Little said.

"The preferred option is for him to have three weeks between runs but I'll talk to the owners and see what they want to do."

If Little waits for the Australia Stakes (1200m), El Segundo would clash with Weekend Hussler, Apache Cat and Time Thief.

If he runs in the Orr he will be opposed to reigning Cox Plate victor Maldivian, who is resuming, and nine other Group One winners.

David Hayes will have two runners in three-time Group One winner Niconero, who was beaten a short half-head when runner-up to Shinzig in last year's Orr, and Caulfield Guineas placegetter Von Costa De Hero as will Mick Price with Toorak Handicap winner Alamosa and Australian Guineas hero Light Fantastic.

The Gai Waterhouse-trained Theseo had his first look at Caulfield on Tuesday morning, working solo over 1400m on the course proper.

The Epsom Handicap and Mackinnon Stakes winner will be ridden by Nash Rawiller who won the 2005 Orr aboard Elvstroem.

The Danewin five-year-old had the benefit of two barrier trials at Rosehill before coming down from Sydney, including a 3-3/4 length win over 1030m with Rawiller in the saddle on January 23.

Acceptances are taken at 9am (AEDT) on Wednesday.
