Golden Slipper winner Sebring faded in the closing stages of a star-studded barrier trial at Randwick on Friday but the $30 million colt did enough in the hitout to impress trainer Gai Waterhouse.

Classy stablemate Tuesday Joy, who was ridden by Nash Rawiller, also enjoyed a pipe-opener in the same trial over 800 metres on the Kensington track.

Sebring finished three-quarters of a length second to the David Payne-trained Baci Amore with Group One runner-up Fist Of Fury from the John O'Shea yard a length away third in the heat run in 47.6s.

Close behind him was Payne's Group Two winner Gallant Tess followed by three-time Group One winner Tuesday Joy.

Waterhouse was pleased with her stars and said they would both trial again at Randwick on January 30.

"Sebring trialled super, he got tired in the last 150 metres but Blake (Shinn) never knocked him about," Waterhouse said.

"Blake said he felt a much more substantial colt and that he had a lot more under him and that he was much more savvy than the horse we used to have.

"Nash was over the moon with Tuesday and he said she only really got going in the last 100 metres which is what you'd expect from her.

"We'll look at their programs after they trial here again in a couple of weeks."

Sebring missed the spring carnival because of a cannon bone injury while Shinn makes his return to the races at Saturday's Rosehill meeting after sustaining a broken wrist in a fall there last month.

The More Than Ready colt, who was purchased for a reported $30 million by Widden Stud, was beaten to the punch when the gates opened by Fist Of Fury.

But Shinn drove Sebring to the lead shortly after and he stayed there until halfway down the straight.

Shinn slipped the colt some rein near the 150 metres but Baci Amore sneaked along the rails and was too sharp for Sebring.

Sebring won the first two legs of the two-year-old triple crown when he claimed the Golden Slipper and Sires' Produce Stakes.

He narrowly failed to make it a clean sweep when beaten a short head by Samantha Miss in the Champagne Stakes.

Tuesday Joy was being aimed at last year's Melbourne Cup but bled from both nostrils when 10th to Littorio in the Turnbull Stakes, putting an end to her spring campaign.
