Glyn Schofield currently sits in the top five in the Sydney jockeys' premiership and wants to cement that in the final week of the racing season.

However, he has set his sights on even more success in the season ahead.

The South African-born rider's 52 wins in Sydney so far this term, including a first Australian Group One on Road To Rock in the George Main Stakes, have him behind Nash Rawiller, Corey Brown, Kerrin McEvoy and Hugh Bowman after he finished fourth with 62 wins last season.

"Fifty-odd winners is okay," Schofield said.

"A top five finish is what I wanted, it's the same sort of finish as last year.

"An improvement on that next season is what I'll be after, hopefully up in the top two would be nice. But it will be a lot of hard work to do that.

"Hopefully Chad can start riding a few winners too, that would be nice."

Schofield returned from a 10-day holiday on Thursday and has four rides for in-form trainer Chris Waller at Randwick but he'll also be keeping a close eye on the Newcastle meeting with his 16-year-old son Chad having his first race rides there.

By the time his son is legged aboard his first runner, Schofield hopes to have already bagged a winner or two at Randwick.

Consistent four-year-old Patrician's Glory awaits the jockey in the Flinders Lane Handicap (2400m) early in the meeting with Waller stepping the gelding up to 2400m for the first time on the back of a win and three placings at his past four starts.

"He's been running well lately behind horses like Skyerush," Schofield said.

"He's in good form and Chris Waller's horses are flying."

Schofield will also be aboard Hawk Island should Waller elect for the 2000m of the Merrick, Dools & Ricki Lee Handicap over the 2400m against Patrician's Glory.

Hawk Island has had Schofield in the saddle for his past two starts including a win at Randwick over 2000m two starts back.

"I know him pretty well now and he's in good form as well," Schofield said.

"He does like a wet track but I don't think that's his only strong point."

Thumbtacks, who Schofield rode to victory at Warwick Farm last month, is his mount in the Randwick Betting Auditorium Handicap (2000m) while Miss Independent looks one of the better chances in the Book Your Spring Carnival Package Handicap (1200m) after winning at Rosehill last Saturday.
