Leading jockey Glyn Schofield will be sidelined until at least Boxing Day after suffering a heel injury in a fall at Warwick Farm.

Schofield was booked to ride the Grahame Begg-trained last-start winner Palacio De Cristal in Saturday's Group Two Villiers Stakes (1600m) at Randwick.

The South African-born rider was thrown from an unraced two-year-old at the Warwick Farm barrier trials on Monday.

Schofield's manager Mark Van Triet said the hoop was lucky not be out of action for longer.

"The unraced horse took fright at something and it spun around and he came off and it then trod on his foot," Van Triet said.

"Initially it looked like it could have been a month or so out but two weeks is not too bad.

"The doctor was quite happy with it when he saw the scans and Glyn is just resting up and letting it heal naturally.

"The doctor thinks that with all going well he can't see a reason why Glyn can't resume on Boxing Day."

Van Triet said Schofield had a good book of rides on Saturday which included the Clarry Conners-trained Court in the Listed Razor Sharp Handicap (1200m).

Randwick also hosts Boxing Day racing in Sydney with the Group Three Summer Cup the feature event.

Schofield won the 2400-metre race last year on the Gerald Ryan-trained Ready To Lift.

He has been in blazing form this season and is fourth in the premiership, nine winners behind leader Corey Brown.

Schofield is also the regular rider of the Bart Cummings-trained Latin News who is the TAB Sportsbet second favourite at $9 for the $1 million Magic Millions Three-Year-Old Trophy (1400m) in January on the Gold Coast.

The Gai Waterhouse-trained last-start Festival Stakes winner Rabbuka is the topweight for the Villiers with 58kg.

Gosford Cup winner and Canberra Cup runner-up Spinney is next in the weights at 56kg ahead of the Guy Walter-trained Lyncean Academy and Waterhouse's Rockwood who both have 55.5kg.

The Waterhouse-trained Bank Robber has topweight of 61kg in the Razor Sharp ahead of The Jackal with two kilograms less.

The Peter Snowden-trained Posadas has 58.5kg.
