Dual Group One winner Sarrera is back in pre-training after making a remarkable recovery from a life threatening accident.

Sarrera suffered a ruptured spleen when he was kicked by a stablemate at trackwork 3-1/2 months ago.

The eight-year-old underwent a blood transfusion and was seriously ill for some time but eventually responded to treatment.

The gelding was kicked the day before he was to resume in the Group Two Memsie Stakes (1400m) won by Weekend Hussler at Caulfield on August 30.

Sarrera reached a peak late in his career winning successive Group One races during the autumn - the Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) at Randwick and the Doomben Cup (2020m), both last May.

"He began pre-training on December 1 at a property at Pakenham," Mike Moroney's stable manager Anthony Feroce said.

The stable hasn't made any set plans for Sarrera's comeback race at this early stage.

Another veteran, seven-year-old Railings, will represent the stable in Wednesday's Group Two $250,000 C B Cox Stakes (2100m) at Ascot with Perth jockey Jason Brown aboard while Steven Arnold stays with stablemate Mission Critical in the weight-for-age feature.

Feroce said both horses had trained on well since finishing 14th and fifth respectively behind Niconero in the Group One Kingston Town Classic (1800m) at Ascot last Saturday week.

Railings is scheduled to go on to the Group Two $400,000 Perth Cup (2400m) at Ascot on January 1.

Feroce said Mission Critical could also go to the Perth Cup but if not, he would be freshened up for an Australian Cup campaign.

He said there was only a small chance Butwaittheresmore would make the trip to Perth for the Cup, but a final decision would not be made until after the gelding runs in Saturday's Comic Court Hcp (2500m) at Flemington.

After an unlucky third to Banana Man in the Bendigo Cup, the four-year-old struck interference near the 400m before getting clear and running on well for third to Ladies In Luck in the Fileur Hcp (2440m) at Caulfield last Wednesday.

"He's more likely to stay here for the Bagot," Feroce said.

"He didn't like racing on the inside of horses at Caulfield last week, but he ran on strongly when he got out but the race was all over."

The Listed $150,000 Bagot Hcp (2800m) is at Flemington on January 1.
