Trainer Gerald Ryan will be out to strengthen his hand in next month's Golden Rose when up-and-coming colt Hus Der Lieften kicks off an ambitious spring campaign at Rosehill.

At $1.2 million, Hus Der Lieften is the most expensive son of former Chilean sire Hussonet to be purchased at the Australian yearling sales.

The colt will make his seasonal return in The Rosebud (1200m) at his home track of Rosehill on Saturday with Nash Rawiller to ride.

"It's a fraction short for him but he is fresh and well enough to run well," Ryan said.

"He's a nice horse and he'll get better as the journeys get longer.

"He'll go towards the Golden Rose and then we'll look at the Spring Stakes (at Newcastle) and the Spring Champion Stakes."

Ryan also has impressive debut winner Rothesay heading towards the Golden Rose and that colt will have his next start in the San Domenico Stakes (1000m) at Randwick on Saturday week.

Ryan wouldn't be drawn on comparing the two and said while they were unlikely to clash until the $1 million feature on August 29, he wasn't splitting them up deliberately.

"I'm just doing what's better for each horse," Ryan said.

"Rothesay will run on Saturday week in the San Domenico but that race would have been too short for the other one."

Hus Der Lieften has raced twice for a second to Sikka over 1150m on debut in May and an impressive 1400m victory at Rosehill later the same month.

He has drawn barrier one in the field of eight on Saturday.

Ryan will also be represented by Flushing Meadows in Saturday's Group Three Missile Stakes (1100m) with Josh Parr to ride.
