Rubinda returns from a long injury layoff at Rosehill on Saturday when he builds up towards his defence of next month's Listed Razor Sharp Handicap.

Seven-year-old Rubinda has not raced since he beat just one runner home at Rosehill in January.

A month earlier, Rubinda came with a barnstorming run to comfortably win the Razor Sharp (1200m) at Randwick.

"He had a fair bit of time off with a knee problem but he hasn't put a foot wrong while he's been in work," trainer Greg Hickman said.

The gelding pleased Hickman in a 815-metre barrier trial at Warwick Farm last Friday.

"We just gave him a nice quiet trial and let him work to the line," Hickman said.

"We didn't have to knock him around, we just wanted to refresh his memory about what was going on."

Rubinda is nominated for Saturday's 1200-metre Open Handicap in which he was given the minimum weight of 53kg.

"I'd suggest he'll probably need the run, it's a different kettle of fish from when you bring them back after a short break," Hickman said.

"Hopefully we'll have him firing for the Razor Sharp.

"I've worked him a little bit different because of his problems and we're just letting him come along himself."

Rubinda has six wins and 14 placings from his 40 starts and has won nearly $290,000.

"The owners have been so patient with him, they love him to bits and I'd love to see this horse get back and win the Razor Sharp again for them," Hickman said.

Stablemate Aquatic King is nominated for two races at Rosehill with Hickman leaning towards the 1500-metre option over a 1200-metre race.

Aquatic King was unlucky last start when blocked for a run at Rosehill on October 31.

The five-year-old enjoyed a comfortable inside run just off the speed but was trapped behind a wall of horses and was just over a length fifth to Brilliant Light.

"We just needed some luck to go our way and he would have been in the mix," Hickman said.

"He worked well this morning (Tuesday) and with a bit of luck will be in the finish on Saturday."

The Razor Sharp Handicap (1200m) is on December 19.
