Premier Sydney trainer Gai Waterhouse says Royal Discretion is going as well as any horse in her stable and is destined for Group One glory this spring.

The four-year-old will run first-up in the Group Two Shorts (1100m) at Randwick on Saturday before heading to Melbourne to go up a level to the Emirates Stakes (1600m) at Flemington on November 8.

"He's just going outstandingly well and I truly believe that I haven't got a horse that's going better than him ... he'll win the Shorts," Waterhouse said.

"And he's ready to make that quantum leap to Group One level and that could be in the Emirates in Melbourne."

Royal Discretion, who has won five of his 14 starts including the Group Three South Pacific Classic (1400m) at Randwick in April, has not raced since running second to Turffontein in the Queensland Guineas in June.

Waterhouse gave Royal Discretion a couple of recent barrier trials with his last effort at Randwick on September 12 when he defeated Polaway by a length over 1050 metres.

Regular jockey Nash Rawiller will miss the "Super Saturday" due to a careless riding suspension but has told Waterhouse Royal Discretion is on the right path.

"Nash jumped off him the other day and said `he's going to win a Group One this horse, he's absolutely flying'," Waterhouse said.

With four Group One races on offer at Randwick and Waterhouse expected to be represented in all of them, she will also be keeping a close watch on the Turnbull Stakes at Flemington where Tuesday Joy will take on Weekend Hussler.

Waterhouse made a flying visit to Melbourne last week to watch Tuesday Joy go through her paces in her build-up to Saturday's Group One event.

"She's ticking over superbly and her work was simply outstanding," Waterhouse said.

"Nothing is set in stone yet as far as her campaign goes but I'll sit down with Mr Singleton (John) after the race.

"The way she recovers from her work is just amazing,, she really is a superb horse."

Tuesday Joy charged home to win the Group Two Stocks Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley to defeat Devil Moon.

Rawiller landed his first victory on the mare after three rides on the three-time Group One winner.

Tuesday Joy is equal third favourite at $11 with Weekend Hussler and Littorio for the Melbourne Cup with last year's winner Efficient sharing $7 favouritism with Irish horse Septimus.
