Crossbow and Dal Dal will spearhead the advance guard for Gai Waterhouse's new season's three-year-olds in The Rosebud at Rosehill.

The 1200m race on Saturday is the final two-year-old event of the Sydney season with all horses a year older the following day.

For the first time in more than a decade, Waterhouse will not finish in the top two Sydney metropolitan trainers with Chris Waller making his mark and set to take second place behind Peter Snowden.

But Waterhouse is preparing to come out all guns blazing for 2010-11 with a strong team of three-year-olds headed to the Golden Rose (1400m) on August 28, the first Group One race of the season.

"Crossbow is running on Saturday and can continue his good form," Waterhouse said.

"Dal Dal is a very nice filly.

"Whether they get to the Golden Rose we'll wait and see."

Leading the charge to the Golden Rose is Saturday's winner Squamosa who has won both his starts on wet tracks.

"I think he will be even better on top of the ground," Waterhouse said.

Crossbow has had to work twice as hard to get his name on the winners' list with his debut win at Gosford on June 23 null and void after an electrical fault caused the barriers to open prematurely and the event declared a no-race.

There were no problems at his second outing on July 17 when the gelding led all the way to score an emphatic win over 1100 metres at Rosehill.

Dal Dal won her debut at Canterbury on June 9 and ran a determined race for third at Rosehill on July 3 when she suffered interference more than once.

Others gearing up in the next couple of weeks with the Golden Rose in mind are Brightexpectations, Mutamayez, Memorable Moment and Golden Slipper third placegetter More Strawberries who runs in an open trial at Warwick Farm on Tuesday.

"We haven't yet decided whether More Strawberries will go to the Golden Rose or maybe tackle the Princess Series for fillies," Waterhouse said.

Golden Slipper runner-up Decision Time will also run in a trial on Tuesday as will his Clarry Conners-trained stablemate Georgette Silk.

Both will kick off in the San Domenico Stakes on August 7.
