It was an emotional win for connections of three-year-old Rogue Warrior at Warwick Farm on Wednesday following the death of one of the horse's part-owners last week.

Jockey Hugh Bowman wore a black armband as a mark of respect for well-known racegoer Barry Burke who died last week as Rogue Warrior ($3.50 fav) took out the Randwick Betting Auditorium Handicap (1600m) by a half-neck from Superior Instinct ($26) with Topi ($8.50) 1-1/4 lengths away third.

The victory brought up a winning double for trainer Joe Pride and Bowman after they combined to win the Picnic Point Handicap (1300m) with improving three-year-old Title.

Pride said Rogue Warrior was a progressive horse heading in the right direction.

"It was really important for us to win today, it was well documented that one of the part-owners Barry Burke died last week so this is a really special win for us all," Pride said.

"It's no consolation but hopefully it's the right way to send him off. He was a great friend to a lot of people in the racing industry."

The victory was Rogue Warrior's second in 10 starts and Pride expects the son of Choisir to get over further than 1600m in coming starts.

"We've had a fair opinion of him the whole way, he was stakes-placed as a two-year-old and I think he's getting up to the right trip now and we're going to see the best of him," he said.

"He's pretty one-paced but if he can keep going at that tempo at the end of 2000 metres he's going to win plenty of races."

Pride said he would now spell Title ($12) after his two-length victory and the trainer expects to see an even better horse next preparation.

"He's shown plenty in trials but he's been very raw and very new," Pride said.

Bowman positioned the gelding just behind the speed set by $1.40 favourite Atelier who was very one-paced in the straight and finished fourth.

"He gave me a good feel. He's still immature but certainly in time he's going to make a horse for sure," Bowman said.

Pride's double was part of a successful day for local trainers with fellow Warwick Farm-based Peter Snowden preparing the quinella in the opening race with first starter Giresun defeating his more-fancied stablemate Interpret.

Steve Englebrecht also won the Ray Bourke Sprint (1000m) with On My Command while the Clarry Conners-trained former Hong Kong galloper Albertinelli scored in the last race to give Bowman a winning treble.
