Epsom contender Road To Rock's George Main Stakes victory caught most punters on the back foot but the entire is anything but a surprise packet to jockey Glyn Schofield and trainer Anthony Cummings.

The five-year-old continues to please the pair in his build-up to Saturday's Group One Epsom Handicap (1600m) at Randwick.

Schofield was aboard Road To Rock in a track gallop at Randwick on Thursday and liked what he felt.

"He's ticking over beautifully," Schofield said.

Road To Rock is backing up after his victory last Saturday in the Group One George Main Stakes (1600m) in which he started at $41.

It was the second run of his preparation after Schofield rode him when sixth to Epsom favourite Rangirangdoo in the Group Three Tramway Handicap (1400m) on September 5.

Road To Rock's last-start win was a milestone for Schofield.

It was his first Group One victory since moving to Australia nearly two years ago.

"Last year I had a hatful of seconds in Group Ones and it was nice to get it out of the way and now I'd like another one," Schofield said.

"Judging by his dividend in the George Main he was a surprise to punters but certainly to Anthony and myself it wasn't a surprise to see him run so well.

"We knew he was a live contender if he got the race run to suit, he did and he got right over the top of them and he should get that same chance Saturday."

TAB Sportsbet has Rangirangdoo as $3.20 favourite for the Epsom ahead of Drumbeats at $4.80 with Road To Rock third in the betting at $5.

Schofield was aboard Rangirangdoo in his last-start second to Drumbeats in the Shannon Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill on September 19.

Cummings' confidence was bolstered after a recent discussion with Schofield.

"The favourite is the obvious danger but Glyn's been on him and he said he'd prefer to be on ours and that's good enough for me," Cummings said.

"This time in the horse has confirmed what we thought he was capable of doing and it was nice to see him do that.

"He's had a very good week, he's a big, strong bull and he copes with his races very well.

"Glyn said he felt nice and sharp on Thursday morning and we're all looking forward to Saturday."

Road To Rock only beat a couple of runners home in last year's Epsom but Cummings said he was dealing with a different horse this time in.

"He had a lot of niggling issues last time and was probably a length or so off being a Group One winner but he's better equipped physically this preparation," Cummings said.
