Things are starting to look up again for trainer Kevin Moses who is hoping stakes winner Rhyno Chaser will spark a big week for the stable when he runs in the Group Three Spring Stakes at Newcastle on Wednesday.
Moses' spring hopes suffered a setback last month when Sydney Cup winner No Wine No Song underwent emergency surgery to repair a twisted bowel, ending plans to run him in the Melbourne Cup.
And shortly after, the stable's talented filly Sara's Choice fell heavily at the 200 metres in the Silver Shadow Stakes on August 23.
But she made a remarkable recovery from the incident, returning with a second to Intuit at Canterbury last Wednesday and No Wine Song continues to make a steady progress and Moses expects him to return to trackwork in December.
Rhyno Chaser is the first of four stable runners set for stakes action this week, with Bundoran Breeze, It's Been A Blast and Global Warming all nominated for Saturday's Rosehill meeting.
"We took a few blows last month but we're starting to get back on track now," Moses said.
"Rhyno Chaser is coming off a nice trial and I'm expecting him to go well."
The Catcher In The Rye colt defeated Dandee Topwin over 1200 metres at Randwick last Friday.
He comes into the Spring Stakes off an eighth to Duporth in the Group Two $1 million Golden Rose (1400m) on August 30.
In four two-year-old starts last season, Rhyno Chaser raced at stakes level each time, highlighted by his victory in the Baillieu Hcp (1400m) in April.
Two starts back Rhyno Chaser ran fourth to outstanding filly Samantha Miss in the Group One Champagne Stakes (1600m) at Randwick.
He is the $7 second favourite for the Spring Stakes with the market dominated by the David Payne-trained Baci Amore at $1.60.
Bundoran Breeze runs in the Group Two Hill Stakes (1900m) at Rosehill and is backing up after running three lengths second to in-form Queenslander Charming Rogue over 1500 metres at the same venue on Saturday.
The Alan Bailey-trained Charming Rogue is undefeated after seven starts and Moses said being runner-up to him is no disgrace.
"He's (Charming Rogue) staying at my stables, so I know how good he is," Moses said.
"Bundoran is racing at a more suitable distance this week and will be in the finish."
The Hill Stakes nominations feature the Gai Waterhouse-trained Bank Robber, who is the TAB Sportsbet $5 equal favourite with stablemate Ashikaga for next month's Group One Epsom Handicap.
Bank Robber is also entered for the Group Two Shannon Stakes (1500m) on Saturday.
Impressive debut winner It's Been A Blast runs in the Heritage Stakes (1200m) for Moses.
He beat Engineered by 3-1/2 lengths at Gosford on August 20 while Global Warming is down to run in the Starlight Stakes (1100m) and is coming off a second to Lifeboat at Wyong on September 8.
"I'm not 100 per cent if he'll (Global Warming) will start yet, we might wait another couple of weeks but It's Been A Blast showed a bit first start and deserves to step up to this level," Moses said.
