Connections of Blue Diamond Stakes winner Reward For Effort have knocked back another seven-figure offer for the rising three-year-old who will make his comeback next month ahead of his Group One Caulfield Guineas mission in October.

Reward For Effort's part-owner, Queenslander Bill Mumford who raced the colt's older half-brother Consular, has revealed a $2.5 million offer by Lindsay Park Stud in South Australia for a half-share in the youngster was rejected recently.

It followed a $4 million bid by an undisclosed source shortly after Reward For Effort won the Group One Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield in February.

"We had an offer of $4 million just after he won the Blue Diamond and recently we had another one to buy 50 per cent for $2.5 million from Lindsay Park," Mumford said.

"It was a good offer and nice money but the horse has a lot of upside."

Reward For Effort, the winner of two his four starts and $764,000 in prizemoney, is back at work preparing for the spring with trainer Peter Moody.

The son of Exceed And Excel finished seventh on a heavy track last start to Queenslander Phelan Ready in the Group One Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill on April 4.

"Had it been a dry day for the Golden Slipper we believe he would have won the race," Mumford said.

"And had he won the Slipper he would have been worth a lot more than $5 million.

"Peter Moody thinks he can win a Group One with him as a three-year-old and I've got a friend at Coolmore who thinks $5 million is a fair price for him."

Moody, who is in Darwin, is delighted with Reward For Effort's progress so far for his spring campaign.

"Peter told me the horse has come back better than ever and has improved since his last campaign," Mumford said.

"He'll resume on August 22 in a 1200-metre race then go on to the Caulfield Guineas Prelude.

"We're not sure if he'll run 1600 metres and the Prelude (1400 metres) will tell us a lot more.

"If we don't think he'll get the mile then he'll be aimed for the Coolmore Stud Stakes.

"Consular had no trouble getting a mile but he was by Royal Academy whereas Reward For Effort is by Exceed And Excel."

The Group One Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) will be run down the straight at Flemington on October 31.
