David Payne will give lightly-raced filly Reem the chance to prove she is worthy of a VRC Oaks start this spring.

The daughter of Galileo is one of three runners for the Rosehill trainer in the six-horse Free Entry Today Handicap (1600m) for two-year-olds at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.

Reem has been runner-up at her only two starts and has shown the trainer enough so far to suggest she is a potential Oaks filly in the coming season.

"She's a very nice filly," Payne said.

"She's by Galileo and is looking for a trip. She could be an Oaks filly down the track.

"If she steps up she'll be nominated for the Victorian (VRC) Oaks."

Reem, who Payne said was the class runner of his three in Wednesday's opening race, was entered for the 1400m 2YO Handicap at Randwick last Saturday but was scratched because of the heavy track.

She will make the step-up to 1600m on the back of an eye-catching first-up second on Randwick's Kensington track over 1550m behind Shootoff on June 29.

"Both her runs have been good, she should have won the other day because she was a little bit unlucky," Payne said.

"She just got too far back."

Premiership leader Nash Rawiller will ride Reem for the first time in a race on Wednesday.

Rawiller did, however, ride the filly in a barrier trial at Rosehill in November last year prior to her debut.

Reem is one of 10 horses Payne trains for Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Maktoum including Raihana, the UAE Oaks winner who joined the stable in recent months to be prepared for the spring carnival.

Another of the Sheikh's horses, Hemem, is also engaged at Warwick Farm in the Camden Handicap (1400m).

Payne's only other runner at Warwick Farm is Kimberley Kid who drops back to midweek company in the Elderslie Handicap (1000m) but takes on older horses after being beaten less than 1-1/2 lengths when fifth to Killian in a 3YO Benchmark-77 at Rosehill on July 3.

"He's drawn barrier one and I think the 1000 metres is ideal for him," Payne said.

"But I don't think he's very well weighted."

Rawiller, meanwhile, has five rides at Warwick Farm while Corey Brown has six.

A winning double by Rawiller at Randwick on Saturday sent him six clear of Brown in the jockeys' premiership.
