Toowoomba trainer Tony Gollan is hoping Saturday's Eagle Farm meeting will prove a red letter day for three of his team gearing up for next month's Magic Millions carnival at the Gold Coast.
Gollan's two-year-olds, Spirit Of Boom and Hawaiian Pearls, will be vying for places in the $2 million Magic Millions Classic (1200m) on January 9 when they respectively step out for the first time in the Listed Phelan Ready Stakes and Listed Calaway Gal Stakes over 1000 metres.
He also has Temple Of Boom, who will tackle the Gold Edition Plate (1200m), chasing a berth in the $1 million Magic Millions Trophy (1400m) on the gala Magic Millions day.
"I would really like to see Temple Of Boom get a start in the Trophy race next month," Gollan said.
"This race on Saturday is set weights and he meets all the horses he's been racing against lately a lot better."
Temple Of Boom drops to 56 kilograms under the race conditions, two kilos less than the three-year-old carried when runner-up to Princess Qualo over 1200 metres at Eagle Farm on November 28.
"I always thought he would be vulnerable last start as he was second-up from a break," Gollan said.
"If he goes well in this he'll have his first start past 1200 metres in the Vo Rogue Plate and that race will decide if he runs in the Magic Millions Trophy."
The Listed Vo Rogue Plate (1350m) will be run at Doomben on Boxing Day.
Gollan is also keen to see Temple Of Boom's younger half-brother Spirit Of Boom make his debut along with Hawaiian Pearls.
Spirit Of Boom pleased Gollan when the son of Sequalo finished second in a 650-metre barrier trial on the cushion track at Toowoomba on November 24.
"I would have liked to have trialled both of my two-year-olds on a grass track prior to their first starts but it wasn't possible," he said.
"Spirit Of Boom goes well and has good natural ability and he had a fairly easy trial last month."
Gollan said it was difficult to compare Temple Of Boom, a winner of three of his seven starts, with Spirit Of Boom.
"At the same stages of their careers Temple Of Boom had only had a jumpout and had never barrier-trialled," Gollan said.
"I don't know if Spirit Of Boom has the same pace as Temple Of Boom but he's a bigger horse and is a lot more developed.
"It would be a thrill to run Temple Of Boom in the Magic Millions Trophy and it would even better if either or both of my two-year-olds make it to the Magic Millions (Classic)."
