Melbourne Cup-bound mare Ready To Lift has had her spring carnival program revamped after trainer Gerald Ryan ruled her out of Saturday's Colin Stephen Quality at Randwick.

Ryan said it would be asking too much of the Kingston Town Stakes winner to carry 59.5kg in the 2400-metre race and then back up seven days later in the Group One Metropolitan Handicap over the same trip.

"She's not running on Saturday, she's got too much weight," Ryan said.

"I'm not going to blue about it because she is extremely well weighted in the Metropolitan with 52.5 kilos, which is why I can't understand why they've given her so much on Saturday."

Ryan, who has never had a runner in the Melbourne Cup, had planned to run Ready To Lift in the Moonee Valley Cup on October 24 as a springboard into Australia's most famous race.

But his decision to scratch her from the Colin Stephen has had a domino effect on the rest of her spring program.

After contesting Saturday week's Metropolitan, Ready To Lift will head to Melbourne where Ryan now plans to start her in the Caulfield Cup on October 17.

"Plan B is to go straight into the Metrop and all going well she will run in the Caulfield Cup and then into the Melbourne Cup," Ryan said.

"Because she is not running on Saturday, if we went to the Metropolitan and then ran in the Moonee Valley Cup she would be having one run in six weeks."

Ready To Lift was the $9 second favourite for the Metropolitan with TAB Sportsbet on Wednesday and a $51 chance for the Caulfield Cup.

While the mare won't run in the Group Three Colin Stephen, Ryan will still be represented in the race by Synonym.

The gelding has had only one prior start over the trip finishing third to Fast Future in the Caloundra Cup last year.

The backmarker has finished sixth at his past two starts in the Premier's (1800m) and Newcastle (2300m) Cups, but Ryan says neither race was run to suit his charge.

However, with bold frontrunner Mr Clangtastic engaged in the Colin Stephen, along with on-pace runner Voice Coach and Bellagio Wynn, who led in the Kingston Town, Ryan is banking on the race being run at a solid tempo.

"The only reason he is running is because it looks like it will be a genuinely-run race, which he hasn't had lately," Ryan said.

"They have all been sit and sprints which haven't suited him.

"He will probably go to the Tatt's Cup after Saturday."

The withdrawal of Ready To Lift will leave a field of 11 for the Colin Stephen Quality which is again set to be a strong guide to the Metropolitan.

Railings was the last horse to claim the double in 2005 before going on to win the Caulfield Cup later that spring.
