Nash Rawiller's loss could prove his brother's gain when Viking Legend goes for Group One glory in the Randwick Guineas on Saturday.

After Nash Rawiller was suspended for careless riding on Monday at Warwick Farm putting him out of the Randwick meeting, he helped his brother Brad gain the ride on the Gai Waterhouse-trained Viking Legend for the elite-level contest over the famous Randwick mile (1600m).

Brad Rawiller is now hopeful he can claim his fourth Group One win in Sydney in the past three autumn carnivals.

Rawiller scored his first Sydney Group One victory in the Randwick Guineas two years ago when he rode champion three-year-old Weekend Hussler to the narrowest of victories over Nash's mount Triple Honour.

He then added the George Ryder Stakes three weeks later on Weekend Hussler before returning to Rosehill the following year to win the $3.5 million Golden Slipper on Phelan Ready.

"I certainly have had some success in Sydney in recent years, three Group Ones is not a bad record," Rawiller said.

"I only got the ride when Nash was suspended on Monday. He put my name in for the ride and I've been riding work for Gai with a few horses when they've been in Melbourne."

Rawiller said he hadn't yet had the chance to study the Guineas at any length but was more than happy to be aboard the Waterhouse runner.

The Randwick Guineas, which was first run in 2006, is the only Group One 1600m race conducted at Randwick that Waterhouse hasn't won.

"I've seen the horse race and obviously he looks a top chance in the race," Rawiller said.

"I've still got to speak to Gai and Nash about him and take it from there but Nash said he'd be a really good ride and on paper it is."

Viking Legend has drawn barrier one for the Guineas.

The Elvstroem colt, who was placed in the Group One Spring Champion Stakes and Group One Victoria Derby last preparation, turned in an excellent first-up third in the Group Two Royal Sovereign Stakes (1200m) last month before finishing four lengths behind the winner Monton in the Group Two Hobartville Stakes (1400m) last start when seventh.

Rawiller also picked up the ride on Wyong Slipper winner Brightexpectations for Waterhouse in the Group Three Skyline Stakes (1200m).

"They've both drawn barrier one and are two very good rides," Rawiller said.

Brightexpectations resumes in the Skyline from a nine-week let-up after finishing 10th in the $2 million Magic Millions Classic on the Gold Coast in January.

"It's a small field but a good field on Saturday, but he's certainly got to be a decent competitor," Rawiller said.
