Nash Rawiller will make a belated start to the defence of his Sydney jockeys' title crown this week with a limited book of rides.

Sidelined because of pneumonia since July 31, Rawiller has taken three mounts at Randwick on Wednesday.

He eased back into the saddle with two rides at Monday's abbreviated Warwick Farm trial session and declared himself fit for what promises to be a hectic spring campaign.

"I feel fine and I'm ready to go again," Rawiller said.

A jockey with well-documented weight struggles, Rawiller said he had been able to keep the kilograms under control during his illness.

"I'm about 57.5 kilos which is good for me but I don't want to overdo things in my first few meetings back," he said.

Rawiller has also kept his book to a minimum for Saturday's Warwick Farm meeting.

His highlight ride will be Theseo in the 1400-metre weight-for-age Warwick Stakes.

He will also ride Theseo's stablemate Brightexpectations in the Up And Coming Stakes while he will be the new rider for Solar Charged.

Rawiller replaces Corey Brown on Solar Charged in the Silver Shadow Stakes.

Brown is enjoying an overseas holiday after riding without success in a jockeys' series at Deauville in France on Saturday.

In his first major premiership win, Rawiller rode 90 city winners last to beat Brown in the Sydney title.

He also ended the Australian season as the leading Group One rider with nine wins at the elite level.

Rawiller's three mounts for Randwick on Wednesday include Pureness, a half-brother to 2008 Golden Slipper winner Sebring who was a runaway winner on debut at Canterbury last month.
