A convincing victory at Randwick has set Rainbow Styling up for a return to the track for next week's Group Three Summer Cup.

The Nick Moraitis-owned stayer won the Chandon Handicap (2000m) by 1-1/2 lengths from Delago Star with co-trainer Michael Hawkes heaping praise on young rider Tim Bell.

The 16-year-old's three-kilo claim brought Rainbow Styling into the race with 57.5kg and he raced handy before drawing away in the final 100 metres.

"He rode him perfectly," Hawkes said.

"He didn't panic when he looked like he might get boxed in and rode him like the best horse in the race which he was.

"We'll see how he pulls up and if he pulls up well then the plan is to go to the Summer Cup.

"It was encouraging the way he won heading into 2400 metres.

"They (races) are never easy but that win looked easy to the eye."

Moraitis was also impressed with the composure shown by Bell who is indentured to Sue Grills at Tamworth.

"The Hawkes stable brought him down here," Moraitis said.

"They thought he was the best three-kilo claiming apprentice around and he rode the horse extremely well.

"He could have had other rides in the country but was prepared to come here for just one ride."

Rainbow Styling's main Summer Cup opposition could come from Zazabeau who put in a pleasing exhibition gallop between races with his Bart Cummings-trained stablemate Sir James.

Cummings said the workout would top the gelding off nicely for the Group Three race.
