Trainer Mick Price has Group One aspirations with recent acquisition Velocitea after she scored a narrow win in the Hyderabad Race Club Stakes at Caulfield.

Formerly trained by Brian Mayfield-Smith who retired late last year, Velocitea was making her debut for Price and brought up her second Group Three win in Saturday's set weights and penalties race for mares.

Last spring she won the How Now Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield and after hanging on to beat Valentine Miss in a photo-finish in the Hyderabad, Price believes she is up to the Group One Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville on March 8.

Last year Price won the Sangster with Bel Mer.

"She is only small but sound and she is a pleasure to train," Price said.

"I don't think we have to test her distances too much as I think 1200 metres is pretty right for her.

"The Sangster looks a good idea at the moment."

Jockey Damien Oliver said Velocitea dug deep at the finish to hold off Valentine Miss.

"She was very brave," Oliver said.

Velocitea is owned by Magic Millions partner Rob Ferguson who owned Price's 2009 Tasmanian Derby winner Betwixt.

Gran Sasso, another pick-up from the Mayfield-Smith yard, also pleased Price with his close fourth to Here De Angels in the Group Three Rubiton Stakes (1100m).

He was beaten less than a length and caught the eye with the way he came from second last on the home turn.

"I think he has got a good race in him," Price said.

He said Gran Sasso was at an advantage on dead to marginally slow ground and is limited to a 250m sprint in his races.

"I have nearly got him worked out and we will just keep him fresh and happy," Price said.
