Predatory Pricer has been heavily backed to win Saturday's $2.5 million Caulfield Cup while Cima De Triomphe, Daffodil and Allez Wonder remain popular with rank-and-file punters.

Alice Springs-based corporate bookmaker Centrebet said it had laid the Paul Murray-trained Predatory Pricer for nearly $1 million at odds of $8.50 and $8 on Friday and the Street Cry four-year-old, a half-brother to champion sprinter Takeover Target, was now $7.50 favourite.

"It's been an astonishing turnaround in the last few hours," spokesman Neil Evans said.

"While the money is still coming for Cima de Triomphe, Predatory Pricer has been hammered and already we're standing it for nearly $1 million."

However Evans said Centrebet would continue to take on the AJC Australian Derby placegetter believing there were concerns about him over the 2400m at the highest level.

Darwin-based corporate bookie Betstar brought Predatory Pricer in from $10 to $8 equal favouritism with Cima De Triomphe with the biggest bet of $10,000 at $10.

"He is definitely the best backed today," form analyst Michael Horne said.

"Kirklees has been $10 in to $9 with a sprinkling of money for him.

"Since the barrier draw they've really only come for Predatory Pricer, Kirklees and Allez Wonder, she's been $15 in to $11 with that steady stream of smaller business."

Cima De Triomphe, Daffodil and Predatory Pricer have been the best-backed runners on Friday with TAB Sportsbet.

TAB Sportsbet form analyst Craig McDonald said the trio was taking up around 45 per cent of Friday's turnover on the big race.

The Luca Cumani-trained Cima De Triomphe was their outright favourite at $8 after Godolphin's Kirklees drifted from that quote to $8.50.

"Daffodil is the best backed by far today but there is also constant money for Cima De Triomphe and Predatory Pricer has been surprisingly well supported today," McDonald said.

"With the (Damien) Oliver factor and being trained by Luca Cumani, Cima De Triomphe will probably start favourite due to weight of money."

AJC Australian Oaks winner Daffodil firmed from $9 to $8.50, Predatory Pricer was in from $10 to $9 while Allez Wonder was solid at $10.

McDonald said there hadn't been much interest in Vigor ($12) since the one-time favourite drew the outside barrier.

He said there had been solid support from rank-and-file punters for the Bart Cummings-trained Allez Wonder who has firmed from $14 to $10 this week.

Allez Wonder was backed from $201 to $101 in the Caulfield Cup before winning last Saturday's Toorak Handicap.

In the past 15 years only one horse, Mummify (gate 13 in 2003), has won the Cup from outside barrier 11 and McDonald said punters had swayed towards Daffodil after she drew nicely in four.

Six of the past seven Caulfield Cup winners have been last-start winners and this year only Kirklees, Light Vision and Allez Wonder fit that criterion.

Caulfield track manager Jason Kerr said the going was a dead (4) on Friday after 4mm of rain overnight and 7mm since Wednesday.
