The loss of Something Anything has been keenly felt by all at Gary Portelli's stable and the trainer is looking to Delago Bolt to boost everyone's spirits in the Up And Coming Stakes at Randwick.

The Villiers Stakes winner was euthanased this week after failing to recover from injuries suffered in a float accident in early June.

A lot rests on Delago Bolt's performance in Saturday's Group Three Up And Coming (1200m) with Portelli expecting big things from the three-year-old.

"He is spot-on and if he's good enough he will be winning," Portelli said.

"He has made a lot of improvement from his two-year-old season, it's just a question how much the others have improved.

"The aim is the Caulfield Guineas and the plan is to take him there after Saturday.

"He looks sensational and if he didn't finish in the first three on Saturday I'd be shattered.

"My only worry is the small field and the tactics that might come into play.

"I'm hoping we can have a good day after what happened with Something Anything."

There were eight final acceptors for the race including last-start San Domenico Stakes winner Shellscrape and runner-up Sniplaz.

Delago Bolt earned his way into the Golden Slipper with his Black Opal Stakes victory but had little luck in the big race won by Phelan Ready on a heavy track.

He has been tuned up for the Up And Coming with two recent barrier trials, both of which he won.

Portelli wants to see Delago Bolt able to get back in the field and run on which is his most comfortable pattern.

"It looks as if there is pace in the race but sometimes these small fields can be tricky," Portelli said.

"But I've got one of the best jockeys in Australia in Corey Brown on him so I will leave it up to him."

Portelli's other feature race runners at Randwick are Belle Soleil in the Toy Show Quality (1400m) and Sacred Orders in the Show County Quality (1200m).

Belle Soleil goes into the Listed race for fillies and mares after two agonisingly close seconds, her most recent when claimed on the line by Toy Show rival Nediym's Dream.

"She's stronger this time around and it's a shame she's been beaten at her past couple," Portelli said.

"Our aim is to get some black type with her and hopefully it's her day.

"Sacred Orders is Mr Consistency and it took a very good one to beat him last time."

At his most recent start, Sacred Orders was run down by explosive finisher Murray's Sun over 1200 metres at Randwick on August 8 to be beaten a half-neck.

AJC Australian Derby winner Roman Emperor will begin his Melbourne Cup campaign in the sprint as will Frank Packer Plate winner Yallingup.
