Golden Slipper winner Phelan Ready will head to Sydney this week to begin his countdown to the Golden Rose.
Trainer Jason McLachlan has decided against starting Phelan Ready in Brisbane ahead of his spring campaign and will send the rising three-year-old south on Friday.
He will have a barrier trial in preparation for his first Sydney start at Rosehill on August 15, a fortnight before the $1 million Group One Golden Rose (1400m) at the same track.
Phelan Ready has been in work for five weeks and will head to Melbourne after his two Sydney runs for his main mission, the Group One Caulfield Guineas (1600m) in October.
McLachlan also hopes stablemate Facile Tigre will join Phelan Ready in Melbourne where he will target the Group One Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on October 31.
McLachlan and his late father, Bruce McLachlan, shared their greatest successes together since forming a training partnership last year when Phelan Ready won the Magic Millions Classic at the Gold Coast in January and Group One Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill in April.
The youngster was spelled after finishing seventh to Manhattan Rain in the Group One Sires' Produce Stakes (1400m) at Randwick, a fortnight after the Golden Slipper.
McLachlan is pleased with both Phelan Ready and Facile Tigre who hasn't started since finishing sixth to Funtantes in the Group Two Champagne Classic (1200m) at Doomben on May 16.
"Phelan Ready isn't a big horse but he put on a bit of weight during his break," he said.
"He weighs 464 kilos but 463 kilos of it is his ticker."
Facile Tigre booked a Melbourne trip following his outstanding victory over Peter Snowden's highly rated youngster Trim in the Listed Ken Russell Memorial Classic (1200m) at the Gold Coast on May 2.
McLachlan said he was delighted with Phelan Ready's progress since he returned from a winter spell.
"He's going terrific and I'm very happy with him at this stage," McLachlan said.
"But he's still got a long way to go yet.
"He leaves for Sydney on Friday and he'll barrier trial at Randwick on August 7."
Facile Tigre will resume at Doomben on July 21.
"Facile Tigre has only been back in work a couple of weeks but if he goes as well as I hope he will first-up then he'll go straight to Melbourne," McLachlan said.
"I've got four runs mapped out for him but his main race will be the Coolmore Stud Stakes."
