Trainer Jason McLachlan's focus will not only be on Phelan Ready in the $1 million Golden Rose in Sydney on Saturday but also on Facile Tigre if he makes his comeback at Doomben.

If successful, Phelan Ready will become just the second galloper to claim the Golden Slipper-Golden Rose double by emulating Forensics' feat.

Facile Tigre earned rave views and was compared favourably as a two-year-old with Phelan Ready following his brilliant win in the Listed Ken Russell (1200m) at the Gold Coast on May 2.

The win followed a spectacular 7-1/2-length victory on debut at Caloundra on April 18 and preceded his last-start sixth to Funtantes in the Group Two Champagne Classic (1200m) at Doomben on May 16.

McLachlan has booked apprentice Luke Rolls to partner Facile Tigre in Saturday's Ideal Electrical Handicap (1110m) but his outside barrier, 12, is weighing heavily on the trainer's mind.

"I'm not sure if he'll start yet and I'll speak to his owners first," McLachlan said.

"He's been in work for about two months and is coming along well but I'm in no hurry with him.

"I've given him an 850-metre jumpout at Caloundra and he's fit enough.

"He didn't win the jumpout and finished about midfield but I didn't want him knocked about."

McLachlan is hoping to send Facile Tigre to Melbourne for the Group One Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m), formerly the Ascot Vale Stakes, at Flemington on October 31.

"I want to get his first race over with here and see how he goes," McLachlan said.

"If he runs well I'll discuss it with his owners whether to send him to Melbourne or wait for the Magic Millions Trophy in January.

"The Coolmore looks like it's going to be a very good race.

"He's still got a lot of maturing to do but I'm expecting him to run well first-up."

McLachlan has great regard for rival Funtantes, who also will be making her comeback from a winter spell, and Gold Coast-trained Fab Fevola.

Fab Fevola was in contention for a trip to Sydney for the 1400-metre Golden Rose following an explosive win over 1110 metres at Doomben on August 1.

However, trainer Bryan Guy scrapped the planned trip after the Falvelon gelding weakened to finish fourth to Princess Qualo at his first attempt over 1200 metres at Doomben on August 15.

"He copped a bump at the 800 metres and grabbed the bit last run," Guy said.

"It knocked the stuffing out of him but I'm not making any excuses.

"Maybe the second-up syndrome was responsible for his defeat."

Guy isn't thinking of a Sydney trip for Fab Fevola at this stage and is tossing up whether to give him a short break to prepare for the Magic Millions Trophy (1400m) on his home track.
