The benefits of Sheikh Mohammed's new training facility at Agnes Banks on Sydney's outskirts are beginning to show with a re-energised Parthian claiming a never-say-die victory at Randwick.

Darley head trainer Peter Snowden said it was a boost to some horses to be able to leave the hustle and bustle of Warwick Farm for the gentler country-style life.

Parthian was freshened up at the property after running 11th in the Villiers three weeks ago.

He was sent out at $4.20 in Saturday's Schweppes Handicap (1400m) but favourite backers had their hearts in their mouths as other horses seemed to get his measure at the top of the straight.

But he rallied under hard riding inside the final 200 metres to edge All Legal ($6.50) by a head with a nose to Adnocon ($9).

"It was a tough effort," Snowden said.

"After the Villiers we sent him back to Agnes Banks and it's paid off.

"He gets to go out in a paddock each day and get back to nature.

"I think this is the fourth winner from nine starters we've had from the property."

Snowden said there were around 60 horses at Agnes Banks with about 40 in pre-training and the other 20 in full training.

"Parthian has been there about six weeks," he said.

"We choose which ones should go there and would benefit most.

"It's great for them to get away from the hustle and bustle."

Bindi Cheers also trains away from the hustle and bustle and is hands-on with her small team at Taree.

But she matched the might of Darley with a winner on the Randwick program when Lucky Elmo held off some accomplished sprinters in the final race on the program, a benchmark 80 over 1400 metres.

Ridden by Kathy O'Hara, Lucky Elmo ($18) had half a length to spare over Joint Chiefs ($7.50) with $3.10 favourite Othello another half-head back third.

"He was supposed to be in Queensland today but the races were washed out," Cheers said.

"I had him entered up there because he couldn't quite win here. I didn't think he was good enough but he proved me wrong.

"He really attacked the line."

Lucky Elmo ran a string of placings in Sydney during the late winter and the spring and came to Randwick off a win in the Inverell Cup on New Year's Day.
