Patinack Farm's revamped spring program for Onemorenomore will give trainer John Thompson his best chance yet to win a Group One for his new boss.

The Champagne Stakes winner was on a Caulfield Guineas mission but following his third behind Road To Rock and Black Piranha in the George Main Stakes (1600m) on Saturday that plan has been scrapped.

"We were happy with his run on Saturday but it just wasn't enough to press on to the Caulfield Guineas," Thompson said.

"He's racing a bit dour and not showing as much dash so we thought we'd go towards Spring Champion through to the Derby."

Onemorenomore will now join stablemate Gathering in the Group One Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) at Randwick on Saturday.

Chris Munce sticks with the colt while Patinack's stable jockey Peter Robl will partner Gathering.

Gathering was runner-up to the smart So You Think in the Gloaming Stakes (1800m) last start and was on the second line of TAB Sportsbet markets for the Spring Champion on Monday at $6 with Onemorenomore the $2.80 favourite.

"It's a good position to be in," said Thompson, who was foreman to master trainer Bart Cummings for many years before joining Nathan Tinkler's Patinack Farm team this season.

"I've been blessed to be given some really nice colts to train and fingers crossed we can do the job."

Onemorenomore raced in the first four throughout in the George Main but Thompson said they planned to have him ridden more quietly this weekend.

He reported the colt had pulled up well from the weight-for-age assignment against older horses and Onemorenomore did win the Champagne Stakes in the autumn seven days after finishing fourth in the Sires' Produce Stakes.

Thompson also confirmed Run For Naara, a slashing second to star colt Denman in the Stan Fox Stakes (1400m), would also back up into the Group One Flight Stakes (1600m) at Randwick.

The filly is being prepared for the VRC Oaks (2500m) in Melbourne over the carnival but Thompson expects her to acquit herself well in the final leg of the Princess Series.

"She was terrific on Saturday. She's on target for the Oaks and she has come through Saturday well so she will back up," Thompson said.

"She ran probably the best colt in the country to a half length on Saturday over 1400 and hit the line strongly so I imagine the step up to the mile will only benefit her.

"The Oaks is her main aim but this is a good stepping stone."
