Two confidence-boosting provincial wins have been enough for Randwick trainer Jason Coyle to give One Sweet Day another shot in town on Wednesday.

The three-year-old will contest the Freeway Hot-Fridays Handicap (1250m) at Canterbury while, in contrast to the filly, Coyle has lowered the bar for enigmatic stablemate Baci Amore who'll go around as topweight in the Freeway Hotel Texas Poker Handicap (1550m).

One Sweet Day is unbeaten so far this preparation with a first-up win in an 1100m 3YO Maiden at Wyong before scoring again in a 1200m Benchmark-65 for fillies and mares at Kembla at the end of last month.

"She was tested in town most of last preparation and I've always thought she was a metropolitan horse but I had to drop her back in grade to boost her confidence," Coyle said.

"We seem to have done that and hopefully she'll put in another nice effort on Wednesday. I think she is well placed in three-year-old company and is a live chance."

Coyle said One Sweet Day had continued to train on well ahead of her return to Canterbury where she is yet to run a place in three starts.

"She's always shown a bit at home and that's the reason she had most of her starts in town last preparation," Coyle said.

"She was hindered by bad luck a bit, she gets back in her races and had a few hard luck stories. Now we've got her confidence up we're happy for her to come back to town."

Both of One Sweet Day's wins have been on rain-affected ground, which she obviously handles.

But Baci Amore has shown a dislike for wet surfaces.

Coyle believes that's the main reason for Baci Amore's lacklustre form at his past two starts.

"We gave him a good break and he's come back in outstanding order but he's been hindered by rain-affected tracks," Coyle said.

"His best run was first-up at Rosehill on a good track over an unsuitable distance (1100m).

"He hasn't got a good track since and the key to him, I think, will be when he gets back on top of the ground."

Apprentice Brenton Avdulla will have his first ride on the four-year-old, taking 1.5 kilograms off the gelding's 60kg impost.

Coyle said Baci Amore was the class runner in the race and wasn't too badly weighted with Avdulla's claim.

The downside for Baci Amore is that Canterbury was rated a slow (6) on Tuesday.
