Talented galloper Beltrois, who went close to winning the Standish Handicap on New Year's Day, will have another feature race start before being turned out to avoid the top autumn sprinters.

Trainer Robbie Griffiths has extended the four-year-old's campaign and hopes that he can go to the paddock a winner after Saturday's Listed Summer Race Days Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield.

"He is a progressive young horse who is probably a little in the twilight zone in terms of being a little lowly rated for the big races in the autumn," Griffiths said.

"He is not ready for the Oakleigh Plate and races like that as he is a 92 rater but if he can poke along in some these races and can keep doing what he is doing he is probably working towards something a bit better later on."

Beltrois has four wins and four placings from his 11 starts and will carry 54.5kg in Saturday's $100,000 feature after lifting his rating from 80 at the start of this campaign.

Last start he lost momentum at a critical point behind the tiring Master Of Design in the Group Three Standish and went down by a long neck to Royal Ida in the Flemington sprint.

The son of Bel Esprit makes his Caulfield debut in a race which promises to be just as challenging as the Standish with multiple stakeswinner Time Matters the topweight with 59kg ahead of Group One-placed Diplomatic Force (58kg).

Tears I Cry (56.5kg), winner of the 2007 Group One Emirates Stakes, and last year's Group Three Rubiton Stakes winner Mind Your Head (56.5kg) add depth to the event.

Griffiths said he had intended to make the Standish Beltrois' last summer run but he continued to do well in the stable.

"He is only a baby and hasn't had a lot runs but he seems to have come through the Standish so well we thought we would go to the well once more before we give him a breather," Griffiths said,

"He is quite a nice horse and what he has done so far gives us some confidence."
