Twelve months after Black Caviar was the toast of Derby day at Randwick, little brother All Too Hard will chase his own slice of the Sydney carnival pie.
Black Caviar was at her brilliant best when she mowed down Hay List and raced away with the TJ Smith Stakes on the corresponding program last year.
She won't be seen in Sydney this autumn but her half-brother All Too Hard is poised to continue the family's success.
It has been well documented All Too Hard's connections decided to miss the Golden Slipper to concentrate on Saturday's Group One Sires' Produce Stakes (1400m).
The unbeaten colt will clash with Slipper winner Pierro, also undefeated, and five other rivals.
Dwayne Dunn has ridden All Too Hard at his three starts and admits he had hoped the colt would line up in the Slipper.
In hindsight, he wonders whether the $3.5 million race would have suited him given the first two across the line raced on the speed.
"He's an exciting horse and obviously I was disappointed that they didn't run him in the Slipper," Dunn said.
"Then again, he might have been like Samaready and got back a bit too far out of his ground and been unable to get back into it."
All Too Hard is the only runner proven over the 1400m of the Sires' having won Melbourne's Group Two version of the race last month.
Markets indicate the feature is a two-horse race between All Too Hard, the overwhelming favourite at $1.50, and Pierro at $2.50.
Raceway is next best at $26 with three of the seven runners, the Darley pair of Limes and Tatra as well as Faustus, at triple-figure odds.
Dunn is similarly upbeat about All Too Hard's prospects and expects him to win on Saturday.
He also believes the colt can snare the Champagne Stakes (1600m) on the final day of the carnival - if trainers Team Hawkes and owner Nathan Tinkler opt to press on.
"On Saturday the 1400 metres looks ideal and he should just go there and win and then back up and win the Champagne Stakes as well. But they (connections) might have different ideas," Dunn said.
"He's good enough but it is just race by race. I think they just want to get that Group One out of the way."
