Owner-trainer John Rooney is very proud of rising nine-year-old mare Pink Shimmer who has her 80th start in Saturday's Travis Harrison Cup at Moonee Valley.

Based at Yackandandah in northeast Victoria, Rooney paid only $2000 for the daughter of Brackenbury after she had won two of her first 16 starts for Wodonga trainer Brian Cox.

The veteran mare only has to finish in the first four on Saturday to pass $300,000 in prizemoney.

Her career statistics stand at 13 wins, 13 seconds and eight thirds.

"The way she feels, the way she looks, the way we look after her, we should get another campaign out of her," Rooney said.

"We don't punish her. When she comes home from Moonee Valley tomorrow she'll have another five days in the paddock.

"We stable her every night, she's got a walk in-walk out into the paddock and she's as happy as hell and her condition is fantastic.

"The only reason we got the horse is because she didn't like the stable environment in there at Brian Cox's and she just thrives out here.

"Sure she's a coming nine-year-old but as I've said we don't punish her and as soon as she shows us she's had enough, that'll be it."

Pink Shimmer likes the Valley where she has raced 15 times for four wins and four placings, her latest win there being over 1600m two starts back when ridden by Stephen Baster on June 14.

However Rooney was critical of Baster's ride on the mare last start at the Valley when she drifted back to 13th at the 400m before running on to finish sixth to Ghostmilk over 1500m on July 3.

She'll be ridden by Billy Egan in Saturday's apprentices only 1514m race.

Egan landed his first metropolitan win aboard Pink Shimmer at Moonee Valley in December 2007 and has won on her twice there.

Das Machen is $3.30 favourite ahead of Pray For Me ($7.50) with Cameo Minx and Pink Shimmer at $8 and Belscenica next best at $10.
