Niconero has retained a share of favouritism despite drawing wide in the Group One Kingston Town Classic at Ascot.

The David Hayes-trained seven-year-old drew barrier 14 in the 16-horse field for the $500,000 1800m weight-for-age feature on Saturday but was still $5.50 equal favourite with TAB Sportsbet along with Perth stars Gilded Venom and Marasco.

Niconero won the race two years ago giving Brad Rawiller his first Group One winner and he retains the mount on Saturday.

Lindsay Park has won the race three times, the others being Military Plume in 1986 and Better Loosen Up in 1989.

Hayes will have three runners in the race with The Fuzz drawing barrier 11 and El Daana gate five.

Assistant trainer Gary Fennessy said the wide draw wouldn't overly affect Niconero's chances.

"I wouldn't be too concerned. He'll sit back off the speed about midfield," he said.

"He was brought undone by getting back too far last start."

Fennessy was referring to his 1-1/4 length fourth to Gilded Venom in the Railway Stakes (1600m) at Ascot on November 22.

Brad Parnham retains the ride on The Fuzz after finishing a 3-1/2-length 10th on him in the Railway, while William Pike takes over the reins on El Daana in her first start in Western Australia.

"The Fuzz's run was good as he got trapped on the fence and ended up five lengths further back than we were hoping he would," Fennessy said.

"He got further back than Niconero.

"I don't think El Daana could beat NIconero but she's done well since she's been in Perth."

The latest of El Daana's two career wins was in the Group Two Edward Manifold Stakes (1600m) at Flemington 14 months ago.

However Fennessy said the Redoute's Choice four-year-old mare had no luck when fourth to Forensics in the Group One Myer Classic (1600m) at Flemington two starts back on Derby Day.

"She lost her position at the 1000 metres and she still couldn't get a run halfway up the straight," he said.

Local stars Marasco and Gilded Venom drew well in barriers one and two respectively.

Grand Nirvana, the only three-year-old in the field, drew gate three, while Jim Cassidy's mount Sniper's Bullet will jump from six.
