Trainer Peter Snowden says his star mare Neroli can't afford to give away a big start if she is to turn the tables on high-cruising on-pace four-year-old Typhoon Tracy in the Group One Myer Classic.

Neroli has yet to beat Typhoon Tracy in two meetings and in an effort to get one back Snowden has added blinkers to her gear to fire her up at Flemington on Saturday.

"She is very, very laid-back and you could drop out last and get home, but in this race on Saturday she can't afford to be that far back," Snowden said.

"If she goes back to second last I may as well leave her back in the box because she will be a million to one chance of winning.

"I want her at least midfield and travelling if she is to be some chance of picking up Typhoon Tracy."

Snowden is hoping the blinkers will also be beneficial to Neroli at the start after she was slow to begin in the Group Two Tristarc Stakes (1400m) two weeks ago.

The six-year-old mare, who has won seven of her 16 starts, picked up late ground but could only finish fourth, four lengths behind Typhoon Tracy who dominated the event.

"She (Neroli) walked out of the gates last start and that is another reason why the blinkers might help her," Snowden said.

"They are going to go very hard in this race and they are not going to stop."

The winner of six of her nine starts, Typhoon Tracy also beat Neroli into fifth place when she landed the Group One Coolmore Classic (1500m) at their only other meeting at Rosehill in March.

Kerrin McEvoy will ride Neroli who has drawn barrier three and is $8.50 with TAB Sportsbet while Typhoon Tracy is the raging $2 favourite.

Trainer Peter Moody said that normally barrier 13 would be an awkward draw but because of Typhoon Tracy's early speed and ability to relax on the pace after 100 metres it posed little problem for her.

"She is blessed with brilliant speed and her greatest attribute is her ability to relax," Moody said.

Typhoon Tracy was on a Cox Plate path until last month when she led and was beaten 2-1/2 lengths when finishing eighth to Heart Of Dreams in the Group One Underwood Stakes (1800m) at Caulfield on September 19.

Moody said Typhoon Tracy's hard-fought second to Caulfield Cup placegetter Vigor three starts ago in the Group Two Makybe Diva Stakes supported her claims at 1600 metres in the Myer.

"The mile (1600m) doesn't hold any fears," Moody said.

"She went into the Makybe Diva a bit underdone ... but she has been trained for this race and is rock-hard fit."
