Nathan Berry has set himself the target of outriding his claim by the end of the year and can go a long way towards achieving that on Saturday.
The apprentice has a strong book of Rosehill rides and is intent on eating away at the 10 wins he still needs to reach the milestone.
"(Twin brother) Tommy did it quite quickly but I broke my collarbone and have had a few suspensions," Berry, 19, said.
"With those setbacks, if I can outride my claim by the end of the year then I think I've done a great job too.
"I wouldn't say I'd be disappointed if I don't do it by then because any apprentice who can outride their claim it's a great credit to them, but I really want to do it before January."
Tommy Berry outrode his allowance when he claimed his 80th metropolitan win on September 4.
The twins' apprenticeships don't finish until April.
One of Nathan's key rides at Rosehill is for trainer Chris Waller on Red Tracer in the Kidney Kids Handicap (1200m).
Berry has never ridden the filly before and has been granted permission to drop his minimum riding weight from 52kg to 51.5kg for the meeting.
"Mr Waller called yesterday and asked if I'd be able to ride the filly with the full (1.5kg) claim," Berry said.
"Getting the opportunity to ride for him, I didn't hesitate and I'm going to ride at 51.5 kilos.
"For trainers like that, even though it's not a big race or anything, I don't want to be knocking back opportunities like this."
Red Tracer, a sister to Shellscrape who runs in Saturday's Salinger Stakes in Melbourne, won impressively by 5-1/2 lengths in a Gosford maiden two starts back before having a wide run at Canterbury last week when third in a 3YO Benchmark 65 (1100m).
"I was quite overwhelmed by her Gosford win, it was full of class and merit," Berry said, adding that the filly's last-start run was also a "big effort".
"I really think she can win that race tomorrow with that weight relief."
The Gerald Ryan-trained two-year-old Saramenha is Berry's mount in the Kidney Health Week Handicap (1100m) in which she is the $2 favourite.
Saramenha, with Berry aboard, bungled the start on debut and was forced to do plenty of chasing when fifth to the Clarry Conners-trained Satin Shoes.
"Her barrier manners let her down in her first start," Berry said.
"All she needs to do is begin like she has in her trials, put herself on the speed and I'll be looking for her to be firing tomorrow."
Berry also rides Girls Go Racing and Kroner but the scratchings of Sir Gwynn and Star Leader on Friday reduced his Rosehill workload to four rides.
