Trainer Tracy Green is confident a stable inspired betting plunge on Mr Hornblower will pay off in the Ramornie Handicap at Grafton.

Mr Hornblower comes into Wednesday's 1200m feature following his eye-catching second to Mitanni in the Listed Eye Liner Stakes (1350m) at Ipswich last month.

The rising eight-year-old was heavily supported on Wednesday from $19 to $12 with TAB Sportsbet to atone for his fourth to The Jackal in last year's Ramornie.

"One day they (betting agencies) will learn not to give us odds like that," said Green, who confirmed her stable support for Mr Hornblower.

"The horse is excellent and I'm confident he'll race well, in fact, I'm super confident.

"He's drawn an alley compared to the Eye Liner when he had barrier 16 and had to come four deep around the field."

Mr Hornblower came from last in the Eye Liner Stakes to finish second, less than one length from Mitanni with subsequent Weetwood Handicap winner Voice Commander third.

In last year's Ramornie, Mr Hornblower jumped from barrier nine and was blocked for a run at a crucial stage when fourth, beaten just over three lengths.

"He's drawn an alley this year (barrier four) and the two placegetters from last year's Ramornie, Captain Bax and Typhoon Zed, both went on to win Group races," Green said.

"The Jackal also ran a course record when he won last year.

"That's not bad form for a race like this but there's some good horses in the race this year like Battlefield and News Alert.

"I regard News Alert as the one to beat."

News Alert is the $3.20 second favourite for the Ramornie following his win in the Group Three Healy Stakes (1300m) at Eagle Farm last month and his John Carlton Cup victory at Grafton last Thursday under 63 kilograms in near course-record time.

The Paul Messara-trained Battlefield is the $2.70 favourite.

Battlefield will need to overcome barrier 11 to maintain his outstanding winter carnival achievements in Brisbane.

After winning on the Cushion track at Caloundra last month, Battlefield strolled to a four length win against his own age over 1200 metres at Eagle Farm a fortnight later before stamping himself a potential spring star with a commanding win in the Listed Ascot Handicap (1200m).

The Con Karakatsanis-trained New Alert will be ridden by Matthew Palmer with regular partner Tye Angland aboard Teasing.

Palmer will join the Karakatsanis stable after the Grafton carnival and Angland said he deserved his chance although he would be out to beat him.

"Matty Palmer's been riding Con's horses work and in races up in Brisbane and he's being rewarded for that," Angland said.

"Teasing won good the other day and she's got a great chance."

"It's no easy race but with a bit of luck coming from the back I'll be in the finish."
