The Group One gap left in the Gai Waterhouse stable by the retirement of Tuesday Joy is set to be filled by her close relation More Joyous in the Flight Stakes.

The decision to retire Tuesday Joy was made earlier this month by her owner John Singleton after the mare failed to show the zest for racing that garnered four Group One victories.

Tuesday Joy has since been served by More Than Ready, sire of More Joyous who is out of Sunday Joy, a daughter of Tuesday Joy's dam Joie Denise.

More Joyous beat race favourite Melito by 2-1/4 lengths in the Tea Rose Stakes (1500m) last Saturday week and Waterhouse expects the extra 100 metres of the Flight Stakes to contribute to an even bigger margin on Saturday.

"She will bolt in," Waterhouse said.

"I rang Singo this morning and told him she would just win.

"She has been working so well and I am overjoyed by how she is going.

"She won't be beaten."

Waterhouse said there was still a chance More Joyous could go to the Thousand Guineas in Melbourne on October 14.

"We will see how she is," she said.

"I never wanted to give her a long spring campaign so it's either the Thousand Guineas or the paddock.

"She has a lot more to do in the autumn."

More Joyous was the early Golden Slipper favourite until her failure in the Silver Slipper won by the Gerald Ryan-trained Melito in February.

The positions were reversed when the pair met in the Reisling Stakes but neither was among the placegetters in a wet Golden Slipper won by Phelan Ready.

The Flight Stakes is the final leg of the four-race Princess Series with Melito second to Deer Valley in the Silver Shadow and victorious in the Furious Stakes before the Tea Rose.

More Joyous did not contest the first two races with Waterhouse opting to pit her against the older mares first-up in the Sheraco Stakes won by Madame Pedrille.

There are 18 entries for the Flight with final fields to be declared on Wednesday.

More Joyous and Melito are expected to dominate betting again but will have strong opposition from Deer Valley and Hurtle Myrtle who both have two minor placings in the first three races of the series.
