Peter Moody says Typhoon Tracy needs a Cox Plate triumph to propel her into the category of turf superstar.

As he prepares for her return to racing in the Memsie Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday, the Melbourne premiership-winning trainer is completely at ease with his decision to set Typhoon Tracy for Australasia's richest weight-for-age race.

Moody abandoned Typhoon Tracy's Cox Plate campaign last year after she ran eighth to Heart Of Dreams in the Underwood Stakes (1800m) at Caulfield.

"It's probably best to give her a shot at stardom (this year)," he said.

"I'm convinced she'll run a mile-and-a-quarter and I've got a horse strong enough to train for that trip.

"We could go through the set weights and penalties mares races or even the mile handicaps such as the Toorak and she would be expected to win those.

"But for her to be a superstar ... if she could put a Cox Plate on the mantelpiece that would be the icing on the cake.

"She's taken all before her in the sprint series and is a five-year-old now and fully mature so we thought we'd give her a fair dinkum crack at it this year.

"On reflection the Cox Plate was won by a horse (So You Think) who was able to run along on the pace and we may have pulled the pin too soon."

Moody is starting off Typhoon Tracy's preparation two weeks later this year.

"She looks fantastic. She's grown and strengthened. She's always been a big, lean filly but she's very strong this preparation and has really pleased us at home," he said.

"... I'm looking forward to kicking her off on Saturday and seeing where we sit in the scheme of things against a few of these nice horses, particularly Shoot Out, who is the benchmark horse at the moment."

Typhoon Tracy is the overwhelming favourite to be named Australia's champion for 2009-10 with the awards announced on September 5.

The mare won four Group One races last season between 1400 and 1600 metres.

Bart Cummings nominated six of his team for the Memsie - So You Think, Caulfield Cup and Melbourne Cup favourite Faint Perfume, Dariana, Sirmione, Moatize and Brightnight.

Apart from Cox Plate favourite Shoot Out, other entries include 2009 Memsie runner-up Whobegotyou, The BMW winner Littorio, the Tony Noonan-trained import Buccellati, Master O'Reilly, Love Conquers All and Valdemoro.

New Zealander Red Ruler is entered as are Master O'Reilly, Zabrasive, La Rocket and Douro Valley.
