Trainer John Wallace will defer a decision until Friday whether topweight Mitanni starts in the Listed Weetwood Handicap at Toowoomba.

Wallace was disappointed when Mitanni drew barrier 16 for the 1300-metre feature and may revert to his original plan to run the rising 10-year-old in next week's Listed Ramornie Handicap (1200m) at Grafton.

"I've nominated him for the Ramornie as well and I'll see what weight he gets down there before deciding where he runs," Wallace said.

"The weights for the Ramornie are due out tomorrow and I won't know what we're doing with him until then.

"The horse is in good order and he'll race well no matter where he starts but he's got a lot of weight with 58 kilos and now a bad barrier in the Weetwood."

Apprentice Brent Evans is making the trip back from Cranbourne in Victoria to ride at Toowoomba which will host its first meeting on the new cushion track.

Evans, who leads the Brisbane apprentices' premiership, is riding on a stay of proceedings after appealing a careless riding suspension incurred at Townsville last Friday.

His indentures were transferred to Cranbourne trainer Michael Kent who he began riding work for on Monday following the 12-month disqualification given to his former boss Lindsay Hatch.

Hatch was recently disqualified at an inquiry into a high bicarb reading returned in a swab from Space Ace following its win at Dalby in May.

Mitanni and Evans combined to win the Listed Eye Liner Stakes (1350m) at Ipswich on June 13 before the pair finished third to the Paul Messara-trained Battlefield in last week's Listed Ascot Handicap (1200m) at Eagle Farm.

Wallace was not surprised with Mitanni's Eye Liner victory and was pleased with the veteran's Ascot Handicap placing.

"He only got beaten just over one length and it was a good run," Wallace said.

"If he does run in the Weetwood he'll run another big race but I'm not sure who will be his main opposition.

"I'm a maiden on the Cushion track and so are a lot of the other trainers.

"I've only ever started a couple of horses on the Cushion track at Caloundra and I'm yet to train a winner on it.

"It's going to be a little strange and whichever horse handles it the best will win."

Trainer Danny Williams is yet to declare his hand with Wasted Emotions who also is nominated for the Ramornie.

However, Williams favours starting the six-year-old in the Weetwood but also wants to see the Ramornie Handicap weights before making a final decision.

"At this stage I'm leaning to the Weetwood but it depends what weight he gets in the Ramornie," Williams said.

"He gave Battlefield four kilos last start and it will be interesting to see what they get in the Ramornie.

"He's going for a spell at Warwick after this run and he could still go back there if I take him down for the Ramornie."

Wasted Emotions had a tough run and took longer than expected to recover from his game second to Battlefield in the Ascot.
