Dual stakes winning sprinter Midnight Mustang is set for a showdown with Mic Mac and El Segundo in the Group Two Memsie Stakes later this month.

Trainer Tony Noonan said the six-year-old had earned a crack at the top gallopers after a dazzling win by nearly three lengths in Saturday's Group Three Spring Stakes (1200m) in Adelaide.

"He's going very well and I couldn't be happier with him," Noonan said.

"I don't think we have got to the bottom of him yet but next start in the Memsie will tell us more.

"He mightn't be ready or up to that level right now but he's fit and well and we will give him his chance anyway."

Midnight Mustang hasn't finished further back than third since joining Noonan's stable five starts ago.

His first win for the stable was at Flemington where he beat Gran Sasso in the Listed Straight Six (1200m) on May 16.

Gran Sasso has since franked the form, posting wins his next three starts at Flemington followed by a photo finish second to I Am Invincible in the Group Three Monash Stakes and a length fourth to Mic Mac, All American and El Segundo in the Aurie's Star.

Midnight Mustang has won eight of his 20 starts, and despite weighing in at 606kg with his 16.5 hands frame, impresses Noonan with his turn of foot.

He is nominated for Saturday's Group Two Liston Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield but Noonan says he won't back him up in the Group Two event.

"He is a very big horse who puts a lot into his racing and needs a bit of time to recover," Noonan said.

Meanwhile Greg Eurell said Mic Mac, who has won six of his seven starts, couldn't have started his spring campaign in better style.

"Everything is good with him," Eurell said. "He came home from the races and ate up well that night and he had a trot and canter this morning (Monday) and is as good as gold."

He said there was still a lot of upside for Mic Mac and that he would be a lot fitter for the Memsie on August 29.

"The run will have done him the world of good," Eurell said.

Colin Little was thrilled with El Segundo and reported the horse had pulled up well after lugging 63.5kg on Saturday.

He said the 2007 Cox Plate winner would be much better suited at weight-for-age in the Memsie.
