Melbourne raider Mic Mac took a giant leap in his career when he stretched his record to five wins from five starts in the Hobartville Stakes at Rosehill to set himself up for a tilt at the Group One Randwick Guineas.

Trainer Greg Eurell was on hand to see Mic Mac ($4) dispense with a class field in the Group Two Hobartville (1400m) when he beat Caymans ($14) by half a length with the runner-up's stablemate Desuetude ($7) a long neck away third and favourite Youthful Jack ($2.80) a close fourth.

"It's a great thrill and it was a tough race," Eurell said.

"I don't know how good he is but I don't think you would get a tougher race if it was a Group One.

"It was a steep rise in class for him and I believe he is still immature.

"He probably has another six to nine months to go but what he does in trackwork he takes to the races.

"He worked with Apache Cat this week, and Apache is a really good trackworker, and he held his own.

"He really is untapped and will go on to the Guineas now."

Many of his opponents will also head to the Randwick Guineas with trainer Allan Denham upbeat about Youthful Jack.

"He went well, he was ridden well and he will go on to the Guineas," Denham said.

Victoria Derby winner Rebel Raider was never in the hunt from his wide alley and finished last of the 13 runners, 7-1/4 lengths from the winner.

Peter Snowden said Caymans would head to the Randwick Guineas in two weeks but thought Desuetude had reached his level and Sousa would be better as the races got longer.
