The presence of Thousand Guineas favourite Melito has already scared off one rival in Saturday's Tea Rose Stakes at Rosehill.

Trainer Anthony Cummings said he would dodge the third leg of the Princess Series with Lovemelikearock in favour of taking on the colts and geldings in the Spring Stakes (1600m) at Newcastle on Wednesday.

Lovemelikearock was third to Melito in the Furious Stakes last start and Cummings didn't believe his filly could turn the tables, at least not over 1500 metres on Saturday.

"Over the 1600 metres (of the Flight Stakes), yes," Cummings said.

"But I thought at the distance Melito would have her measure on Saturday.

"I thought there was probably more likely to be speed in the race on Wednesday and that gives her a chance to hit the line.

"It also gives her two-and-a-half weeks going into the Flight Stakes, which I think is a better recipe for her to still be sharp enough to catch up to the others at the mile."

Cummings will still be strongly represented at Rosehill and will start Zavite and Nothin' Leica Cat in the Hill Stakes (1900m) while Seeking Attention will back up in the Starlight Stakes (1100m) after her fourth to Hot Danish on the weekend.

Zavite and Nothin' Leica Cat are pursuing Cups campaigns and Cummings expects both to run cheeky races.

The winner of the Launceston and Adelaide Cups earlier this year, Zavite has finished unplaced at his two runs back over unsuitable trips in the Warwick and Chelmsford Stakes.

But Cummings predicted an improvement up to 1900 metres on Saturday despite conceding Zavite would continue to get better as he was stepped up in trip.

"I've been really pleased with the way he's come through the early part of his preparation and Saturday might be the first time he starts to show that in a real racing sense," Cummings said.

He is also keen to start Bach in the Group Three Gloaming Stakes (1800m) but with 19 nominations for the race which is limited to 13 starters, he is keeping his options open with Bach also paid up for the Spring Stakes at Newcastle.

Cummings is also set to start four of his big guns at Caulfield on Saturday including Adrian Knox Stakes winner Miss Darcey who has been entered for the Group One Underwood Stakes (1800m) with Mark Zahra to ride.

Damien Oliver has been booked to partner Red Lord in the Naturalism Stakes (2000m) while Cummings has secured Glen Boss for both Turffontein in the Group One Sir Rupert Clarke (1400m) and Prima Nova in the How Now Stakes (1200m).

Turffontein was third to Orange County in the Rupert Clarke last year and Cummings was encouraged by his last-start fifth to Swift Alliance at Flemington.

"Turffontein's run the other day was good, he had some of the best finishing speeds in that race," Cummings said.

"He was on the wrong part of the track as it turned out and was maybe a little bit too far out of it but 1400 metres is his pet distance."
