Rosehill trainer Tim Martin will try for his second Group One winner in the space of a week when Murtajill resumes in Saturday's Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes at Caulfield.

Martin's courageous sprinter Typhoon Zed got home by a short-half-head from Absolut Glam in the Manikato Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley last Saturday and he is keen for Murtajill to have a crack at the 1400-metre Clarke, a race he ran so well in last year.

The Rock Of Gibraltar entire drew the outside barrier (18) in last year's Clarke and finished fourth behind Bon Hoffa after jockey Dean Yendall went forward early and sat second.

Martin knows what it takes to win the feature sprint, having landed it with top colt Exceed And Excel in 2003.

Now a four-year-old, Murtajill hasn't won since his two-year-old season when he was successful twice - in the Breeders Plate (1000m) and the Skyline Stakes (1200m) - both at Randwick.

He also finished third in the Silver Slipper Stakes and fourth in the Golden Slipper and AJC Sires' Produce Stakes.

Martin was encouraged by Murtajill's form last autumn when he was placed on four successive occasions including Group One seconds to Racing To Win in the All Aged Stakes (1400m) at Randwick and to Apache Cat in the Doomben 10,000 (1350m).

"He trialled really well last week and he's going really well," Martin said referring to his eight-length win over Starry Messenger in a Rosehill barrier trial last Tuesday.

Martin said while Typhoon Zed had struck even fields to win twice at Group One level, Murtajill had been forced to race the likes of Weekend Hussler, Racing To Win and Apache Cat.

"They are top-class horses and he's not up to that," Martin said.

"He's a Group One horse if he finds the right race."

Murtajill is one of 30 entries for the Clarke, a race restricted to a field of 16 and four emergencies.

Among the highest rated entries are last year's winner Bon Hoffa, 2007 runner-up Niconero, Eskimo Queen, Swick, Serious Speed, last year's upset Underwood Stakes winner Rubiscent, Valedictum, Alexander Of Hales and Orange County.
