Mick Price's chances of winning back-to-back Thousand Guineas received a major boost when Corsaire swept to victory in Saturday's Listed Quezette Stakes at Caulfield.

In winning, the promising Anabaa filly led home a quinella for well-known owner and breeder Tony Santic.

Santic bred the winner and bought the runner-up Headway as a yearling and both carry his familiar colours made famous by triple Melbourne Cup winner Makybe Diva.

Price said the filly, like many of the others who finished behind her, is headed to the Group One Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield on October 14.

Connections were somewhat surprised when on debut last spring she scored a dashing win in the Merson Cooper Stakes at Sandown.

"I never really thought she was a two-year-old," Price said.

"We then tried to run her in the Blue Diamond and she ended up being too immature and couldn't handle the racing.

"So she had a good spell and they've done a good job with her down at Makybe.

"It was a good field. I think she's a Thousand Guineas filly. We will give her some racing and get her to learn to relax."

Corsaire is one of 12 fillies Price entered for the Thousand Guineas which he won last year with Gallica.

"She's bred to get a mile (1600m) and she's got a good turn of foot. So that plan is all looking good," he said.

Her preparation for the Quezette didn't quite go to plan when she parted company with her rider in a jumpout at Caulfield on Tuesday morning.

"She flew the gates and had a fly around with no rider on but she came through it unscathed," Price said.

Corsaire ($15) cruised home to beat Headway ($4) by three-quarters of a length.

Come Hither ($10) made ground from the back of the field and ran into third place another 1-1/4 lengths back.

The biggest disappointment of the race was $3.20 favourite Rostova who beat only one runner home.

It was reported after the race that the filly was showing signs of being in season.

"I guess we'll see how she pulls up," regular rider Steven King said.

"Her action wasn't great today."

Noesis ($7) took no part in the race when she refused to gallop and persisted in bucking shortly after the start and it was revealed after the race that her saddle had shifted forward.

Corsaire is the only foal to race to date from the Singspiel mare Crystal Choir - a half-sister to international Group One winner Catella.

The Quezette wrapped up a three-year-old feature race double for Santic's Makybe breeding operation.

Earlier the Makybe-bred Starspangledbanner won the Listed Vain Stakes for three-year-old colts and geldings.
