Injured apprentice Taylor Lovelock-Wiggins had a spring in his step as a spectator at Rosehill on Saturday but a date for a return to the saddle remained unclear for the youngster.

Lovelock-Wiggins suffered three skull fractures, a crushed eye socket, a broken cheekbone, two fractures of his jaw, bleeding on the brain and a broken finger in a fall at Gundagai on October 9.

He recently underwent surgery and had a plate and four screws inserted into his eye socket.

"I've got an appointment with the neurosurgeon on the 29th (November)," Lovelock-Wiggins said.

"He'll check the skull fractures and make sure there is no bleeding on the brain and then hopefully we can start looking at a comeback but there's still a way to go.

"The first couple of weeks were very tough. I was so tired because of the bleeding but I'm heaps better now and starting to feel like my old self and it's just nice to be at the races."

Lovelock-Wiggins is based in Canberra where he is indentured to his father Peter, a former jockey.

His older brother Ryan is also a jockey and is based in Queensland.

Taylor Lovelock-Wiggins rode his first Saturday metropolitan winner at Randwick in August to stamp himself as a rising star.

Meanwhile reigning Sydney premier apprentice Daniel Ganderton expects to be back riding by the middle of next month.

Ganderton broke his left leg in a fall at Newcastle in September.

At the time he was indentured to the Gai Waterhouse stable but the leading trainer believes he will benefit from broadening his horizons as his apprenticeship comes to an end.

Among Ganderton's big wins this year were the Ramornie Handicap aboard Battlefield and the Silver Shadow Stakes on Deer Valley.
