Brilliant Light's trainer Kerry Parker says the Doncaster Mile placegetter will concede a fitness edge to some of his high-profile Warwick Stakes rivals.

The five-year-old will make his return in the Group Two 1400m feature at Warwick Farm on Saturday whereas Group One weight-for-age winners Danleigh and Sniper's Bullet have had a run under their belt in the Missile Stakes.

Despite that Parker said Brilliant Light was ready for his first test in weight-for-age company.

"I'm sure horses like Danleigh with a run under his belt will have the fitness edge but all in all I think he (Brilliant Light) is good enough to hold his own provided he gets the right run," Parker said.

Brilliant Light came of age during the autumn with black-type wins in the Group Two Ajax Stakes and Listed Doncaster Prelude before his gallant third in the time-honoured Doncaster Mile.

Parker revealed Brilliant Light was also penned in for a return in the Missile on August 7 but a slight hiccup early in his preparation, when he kicked out and sustained a cut to one of his back legs, forced the trainer to change tack slightly.

Brilliant Light was put through his paces by race jockey Jay Ford in an 800m jumpout at Kembla Grange last Wednesday and Parker said the promising galloper was "going super" ahead of his return.

Eight Group One winners are among the 20 Warwick Stakes nominations including Danleigh and Sniper's Bullet and other weight-for-age winners at the elite level, Theseo and Metal Bender.

"We'll start him off in the deep end and see how he swims," Parker said.

"He has earned it and realistically it (his record) makes it hard to go anywhere else anyway."

Parker said major 1600m handicaps such as the Epsom, Toorak Handicap and Crystal Mile were realistic targets in the spring given the gelding's performance in the Doncaster when he raced wide throughout from an outside barrier.

However, Parker has also nominated Brilliant Light for the Caulfield Cup and Cox Plate to keep his options open.

"Hopefully he's flying and can run 2040 metres - that would be great," he said.
