French jockey Eric Legrix has ended his riding career on a winning note with victory at Singapore's Kranji track on Sunday.

Legrix, 44, will return to his homeland to join Pascal Bary as an assistant trainer.

Bary gave Legrix one of the most famous of his 1300 plus wins - the Breeders' Cup Turf with Miss Alleged at Churchill Downs in 1991.

The jockey's most famous loss came when Sagace was disqualified as the winner of the 1985 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe with the race awarded to Rainbow Quest who suffered more than one bump from his opponent in the run to the post.

Riding the Takaoka Hideyuki-trained Sparkle at his last race ride, Legrix guided the filly to a decisive victory.

It was fitting that Legrix should end his stint in Singapore partnering a Takaoka-trained runner as it was Takaoka and the Big Valley Stable the owner of Sparkle that provided the jockey with his first win in Singapore.

"It is a dream come true," Legrix told the Singapore Turf Club.

"Even at my age you are allowed to dream and it was the perfect way to finish my career.

"When I came here two years ago, Mr Takaoka and Big Valley provided me with my first winner in Singapore and it was fitting that they send me off with a winner at my last ride."

The winner of 91 Group One races, Legrix experienced success in Hong Kong, Macau, Malaysia and Japan as well as Europe.

Legrix's biggest win in Singapore was aboard Trigger Express in the 2008 Queen Elizabeth II Cup.
